Reliving the old: Vice-Chancellor of the Karnataka State Law University J.S. Patil speaking at the ‘Khadi Day’ programme at G.K. Law College in Hubli. HUBLI: While extracurricular activities continued in educational institutions of the twin cities, last week also saw programmes on sensitising students to HIV/AIDS as well as to the use of khadi. Also, a pre-placement training session was among the highlights. With the objective of creating awareness among the youth on the significance of khadi, the Gurusiddappa Kotambri Law College had organised “Khadi Day”. It also resolved to observe every Monday as “Khadi Day” for students as well as faculty members. Inaugurating the function, Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka State Law University J.S. Patil, who came dressed in khadi attire, elaborated on the significant role khadi played during the freedom struggle. Explaining how khadi became synonymous with patriotism and self-reliance during the freedom struggle, he said that observing “Khadi Day” was a first step towards building a patriotic society. S enior advocate G.R. Andanimath, former District and Sessions Judge Vijay B. Shiriyannavar and Principal of the college G.B. Patil were present. AwarenessThe Oxford Pre-University College for Science, Hubli, organised a lecture programme to mark “World AIDS Day”. Esther, Shilpa and other members of “Equip India”, a non-governmental organisation working for people with disabilities, delivered lectures and sensitised students to issues relating to HIV/AIDS. Apart from providing information on HIV/AIDS, the speakers spoke on some of the common misconceptions with regard to diseases such as cancer and tuberculosis. Chairman of the college Vasanth Horatti presided over the function. Principal Manjula Mathew was present. OpportunitiesThe students of IBMR School of Journalism were introduced to opportunities in broadcast media by All India Radio’s Programme Executive Diwakar Hegde. In a lecture delivered last week, Mr. Hegde spoke on “Avakashavaniyagi Akashavani” and elaborated on how budding journalists could make a career by working in AIR or private radio channels. TrainingWith the objective of preparing management students for campus recruitments, the Global Business School, Hubli, organised a pre-placement training session. Anshul Gupta, Chief Executive Officer of Pro Avenues, and his team conducted a mock campus recruitment process for the students and gave them tips on how to get prepared for interviews. Pre-placement trainer Kiran Magavi coordinated the event.
