BHUBANESWAR: Governor Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare on Sunday urged youths to understand socio-economic imbalance prevailing in the country and make efforts to eliminate it. Addressing the fifth convocation of KIIT University, Mr. Bhandare said, “We are living in an era when India is metamorphosing into a global giant in many fields. Yet, millions in rural and tribal areas continue to suffer.” “For these suffering millions, some basic needs of life are still a dream. Women walk miles for a pot of drinking water and institutional delivery is a distant dream. Quality healthcare services, education and electricity are to be provided to many,” he said. Honorary Degrees of Doctorate were conferred on four eminent personalities from different parts of the country. Recipients of honorary degree of D. Litt are Padma Vibhusan Mahasveta Devi, Padma Bhusan Ramakanta Rath and Sukhadeo Thorat.
