East Bengal downs CPT

KOLKATA: Kingfisher East Bengal got back to winning ways beating Calcutta Port Trust (CPT) 4-2 in a premier division encounter of the Kolkata football League at Kalyani Municipal Stadium on Sunday.

East Bengal’s under-19 striker Budhiram Tudu struck twice while Ghanaian Abel Hammond and Harmanjot Khabra scored once each.

Nigerian striker Ezehnna Henry scored both the CPT goals.

Big relief

The win came as a relief for the East Bengal camp, which had lost its previous match against Tollygunge Agragami.

East Bengal suffered an early set back as the local port team gained a 2-1 lead at the half-time.

Young Budhiram put East Bengal in the lead in the 12th minute but Henry scored two quick goals first off a penalty in the 38th minute and the next a header just before the break to put CPT ahead.

Strong reply

East Bengal came back strongly after the break and equalised through Hammond in the 57th minute. Khabra (71st) and Bhudhiram (73rd) made the most of CPT custodian Arindam Ghosh’s sloppy vigil to score for East Bengal.

The win helped East Bengal tally seven points from four matches while CPT continued to stay at the bottom of the standings with just one point from four matches.
