Christy Fernandez held the talks Only 4.5 km of the 13-km bypass is completed KOLLAM: Christy Fernandez, Secretary to the President of India, held talks here on Sunday regarding speeding up the completion of the Kollam bypass of National Highway 47. The talks, though informal, were attended by National Highways Authority of India officials and held in the presence of District Collector A. Shajahan and Kollam MP N. Peethambara Kurup. Though Mr. Fernandez did not speak to mediapersons, Mr. Shajahan said Mr. Fernandez was interested in the issue as he was a native of Kollam and the bypass had been lying incomplete for years. Mr. Fernandez would use his good offices with the Union Ministry of Surface Transport to get the bypass completed at the earliest, it was told. Work on the bypassThe bypass, from Mevaram to Kavanad, is 13 km long. Work on 4.5 km, from Mevaram to Kallumthazham, has been completed. No progressExcept for land acquirement, there has been no progress on the remaining stretch. The initiative by Mr. Fernandez is being seen as an attempt to include the bypass in a special project and ensure its early completion.
