‘Nazir organised classes in Madikeri’

Staff Reporter

Accused makes ’vital revelations’ on LeT activities in India

Tamil Nadu arrives to question Nazir

Accused was in constant touch with Indian Mujahideen

Bangalore: T. Nazir Parvan (25), a suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant, had allegedly spread his network in different parts of Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Jammu and Kashmir.

The city police on Sunday continued interrogation of Nazir and his associate Shafique alias Shafaz Shamsuddin, who were handed over to India by Bangladesh recently in connection with their role in the terror attacks in Bangalore city in 2008.

During interrogation, the accused reportedly made some vital revelations about LeT activities in India and its links with other terror outfits.

Nazir had organised classes in Madikeri and other places in the State besides interacting with several leaders of Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), a banned organisation.

He had tried to recruit youngsters for the LeT in these States, a police officer told The Hindu here on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a day after a Kerala police team arrived here to question Nazir and Shafique, the Tamil Nadu police too arrived here on Sunday to question Nazir, who was behind the Kalamassery bus burning case in Kerala. The Jammu and Kashmir police too are expected to come to the city for interrogating the two.

Nazir, one of the alleged masterminds of the Indian Mujahideen terror outfit, was said to be behind an ex-filtration bid by four Keralites through Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir in October 2008 to Pakistan. All the four were killed in an encounter.

“The accused was in constant touch with Indian Mujahideen commander Riyaz Shahbandri alias Riyaz Bhatkal. Nazir recruited a number of youngsters from Kerala and sent them for terror training to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir,” the officer said.

The details of the interrogations have been shared with the Kerala and Tamil Nadu police, and with the Central security agencies, the officer added.
