Entrepreneurs asked to make attractive items from natural fibres State to have a Fibre Haat: Nishank DEHRA DUN: Uttarakhand will soon establish a natural fibres bank to conserve and promote planting material for commercial exploitation as fibres are known to provide user-friendly fabric and handicrafts. Announcing this at the national workshop on “Possibilities and potential of natural fibres in mountains” at the Forest Research Institute here over the weekend, Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank called upon entrepreneurs to make attractive items from natural fibres so that this trade flourishes as a major revenue-earning cottage industry. He directed the officials to use files and folders made of natural fibres as that would create a market for the large number of poor entrepreneurs. “The State will also have a Fibre Haat on the lines of Dilli Haat in Delhi,” Mr. Nishank said. “Small and cottage industries are vital for all-round development of Uttarakhand where big industries cannot be established due to environmental concerns. The people, especially the youth, should gear up with innovations to produce items that find a ready market and the officials and banks should be ready to walk the extra mile to help these entrepreneurs,” he said. Jaya Jaitly, chairperson of the Handicrafts Haat Committee of New Delhi, while appreciating the handicrafts produced in these hills invited Uttarakhand to take part in the forthcoming exhibition at Dilli Haat.
