Geeta Reddy to be Leader of House

Special Correspondent

Official announcement by Speaker today

J. Geeta Reddy

HYDERABAD: Minister for Information and Public Relations J. Geeta Reddy will be the Leader of the House in the Legislative Assembly.

According to highly placed sources, Chief Minister K. Rosaiah on Sunday wrote a letter to Assembly Speaker N. Kiran Kumar Reddy about the decision to appoint Dr. Geetha Reddy as the Leader of the House.

A non-controversial fourth time MLA, Dr. Geeta Reddy represents Zaheerabad Assembly constituency in Medak district and is the senior most member in the Rosaiah’s Cabinet from Telangana region. She had represented Gajwel constituency in the same district in 1989, 1999 and 2004 before shifting to Zaheerabad in 2009 general elections.

While making the appointment, Mr. Rosaiah appears to have taken care to give due representation to all the regions. While he himself hails from Andhra region, the Speaker is from Rayalaseema and by making Dr. Geeta Reddy the Leader of the House, Telangana region has also got due recognition.

Her appointment is also significant in the sense that late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was instrumental in appointing P. Sabitha Indra Reddy as the first Home Minister of the State. Mr. Rosaiah also will be credited with appointing a woman Dalit Minister as the Leader of the House.

An official announcement is likely to be made in the Assembly on Monday by the Speaker.
