One for the album: Air Force Officers at the Armed Forces Flag Day function held at Raj Bhavan in Bangalore on Monday.
BANGALORE: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has said that the State Government will respond to the needs of the defence personnel, both in service and retired, and provide all assistance in resolving their problems.
He was speaking at the Armed Forces Flag Day, organised by the Department of Sainik Welfare and Resettlement here on Monday.
Thanking the defence personnel for their support in fighting the recent floods in several parts of the State, Mr. Yeddyurappa felt that occasions such as the Flag Day should not be a mere Government affair but more of a public participation.
Welcoming the gathering, Director of the department, Colonel (retd.) C.M. Uthaiah said the department had intended to collect Rs. 2.8 crore for the occasion but could only raise Rs. 1.85 crore.
The Chief Minister honoured war bereaved families and wounded soldiers and also gave away cash awards to gallantry award winners on the occasion. Those honoured on the occasion were: war bereaved families — Dhanalakshmi Unnikrishnan mother of the late Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan killed in Operation Black Tornado in Mumbai; P. Sarala, wife of the late Naik Kiran Kumar killed in Operation Rakshak in Jammu and Kashmir; and Usha K., wife of the late Lance Naik S. Gururaj killed in Operation Rakshak.
The honoured wounded soldiers were: Sepoy Gawade Vaijanath Kallappa (Belgaum); Naik Hananmant Davalagi (Bijapur); Sepoy Sileman Multhani (Belguam); and Gunner Ravi B.C. (Mysore). The cash awards for gallantry award winners were: Dhanalakshmi Unnikrishnan, mother of the late Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan winner of the Ashok Chakra, Air Vice Marshal B.K. Murali winner of the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Naik Ramanna R.B. winner of the Shaurya Chakra.
