Students win gold medal in karate competition

PUDUCHERRY: The National Service Scheme (NSS) of Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School organised a programme in line with the National Integration Week on November 23. State Liaison Officer of NSS E.M. Rajan spoke on the importance of the occasion. Programme Officer of NSS of the school P. Mariaselvam and vice-principal Jalaja Balakrishnan spoke.

At Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School, P. Kadiravan of Class VI, won the gold medal in subjunior grade at the national-level karate competition organised by the All-India Karate-do-federation in Jaipur.

Puducherry Yoga Association organised the 24th Puducherry State Yoga Championship-2009 and Praveenkumar of Class VII won the second prize in common age group category.

At the 12th State-level Ranking Table Tennis Tournament conducted by Rainbow Table Tennis Club under the auspices of Pondicherry State Table Tennis Association, L. Nandakumar was declared as winner in the mini cadet boys level, while V. Sudarsanane of Class VII emerged as winner in cadet boys level and N. Akashkanna was declared as runner-up. K. Lokesh of Class VIII won the sub-junior boys level and runner up in junior boys level. R. Vijayakrishnan retained his position as winner in the junior boys category.

R. Vijayakrishnan emerged winner in the junior boys level and also in the men’s singles and he bagged St. Mary Antoinette Rolling Trophy and Arumainathan Memorial Rolling Trophy.

Winners at competitions

S. Archana of Standard XII of Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School participated in the 55th School National Championship conducted at Amritsar, Punjab and bagged the silver medal in pole vault clearing a height of 2.9 metres. Principal Fr. Gregory Devarajan appreciated the student.

V. Aswath Vitusun and J. Deepak Vaishnov of Standard IX participated in the chess tournament for boys and girls conducted by Mahakavi Subramanya Bharathiyar Youth Club, Puducherry in association with National Group of institutions and have been placed in 5th and 6th ranks. S. Rachel of Standard IX participated in the Seventh State Level Ranking Table Tennis Championship conducted by Law College Staff Recreation Club, Kalapet, Puducherry and was declared runner-up in non-medalist event.

Win Prizes

Five students of St. Patrick Matric Higher Secondary School won special prizes at the 10th annual running train competition out of 46 prize winners throughout the State form Class III to X level. The winners were D. Gogulnath of Class IV, S. Aishwariya of Standard V, R. Krishna of Class VI, Ashwin Mithra and A. Maria Patrick Kingsly of Class VIII.

M. Sivagamy of Class XI received a cash award of Rs. 250 for securing the first mark in Tamil in the matriculation examination from Pudhuvai Tamizh Sangam. R. Saranya of Class XI won the first prize and M. Anushree of Class XI came second in Just-A-Minute (Tamil) in Recuellir les Papillons-09 (Interschool meet) at Idhaya College of Arts and Science for Women.

M. Vinodhini of Class XI was declared runner up in junior girls and V. Saravanan of Class VII was the runner in sub junior boys in the State Level Ranking Table Tennis Championship.

Sauradeep Das of Class XI won the first prize in the inter school painting competition under the theme of “My Vision for Better World” organised by Brahmakumaris. H. Eresh Prashar of Class VIII received the consolation prize of Rs. 500 in the on the spot painting competition conducted by The Hindu Young World in November.

Science programme

Alpha Matriculation Higher Secondary School students of Class XI won the first prize among 30 schools from south Tamil Nadu by exhibiting a working model showing how artificial clouds could be formed by using sea water in order to reduce global warming at the “Contact Science Motivation Programme.” This was held in Madurai from November 19 to 28 and was organised by NCSTC, RVPSP, DST, New Delhi. The winners – Md. Saki, Sivaprakash and Manikandan – are eligible to participate in the science exhibition which will be held in New Delhi. The winners had participated in many interactive programmes organised between the lecturers and students.
