SHIMOGA: BJP candidate for the Legislative Council election from the local bodies constituency in Shimoga district R.K. Siddaramanna said here on Monday that there had been a good support to him from all corners of the Shimoga Local Authorities’ Constituency which goes to the polls on December 18. Addressing a press conference, he said that he launched campaigning on December 2 and met elected representatives of the zilla and taluk panchayats, the town municipal and city municipal councils in Sorab, Sagar, Hosanagar, Bhadravati and Honnali taluks. He said that in the second phase of the campaign he would tour Shimoga, Channagiri and Shikaripur taluks. He said that there had been good support to the BJP at Kumsi, Gajanur, Hosudi and Holalur gram panchayats which he visited two days ago. He said that in Tirthahalli taluk people were happy over the grants being given to Shimoga district by the State Government. He said that another ticket aspirant and former MLC Shantaveerappa Gowda, who had filed nomination papers only to withdraw it on the direction of the High Command, was campaigning in his (Mr. Siddaramanna) favour. Mr. Siddaramanna said that Honnali MLA M.P. Renukacharya was working in his constituency for the sake of the BJP’s victory. He said that there were two MPs, 10 MLAs, of whom eight were from the BJP, and three MLCs in the two districts of Shimoga and Davangere. This had added strength to the party’s status. Shimoga MP B.Y. Raghavendra, Shimoga district BJP president Girish Patel, former MP Ayanur Manjunath, leaders Devdas Nayak, S.S. Jyotiprakash, N.J. Rajashekhar, K.S. Anantramaiah, S. Jnaneshwar, Channabasappa and S. Dattatri were present.
