Math devotees take out procession

Staff Correspondent

DHARWAD: Devotees of Murugha Math took out a procession in Dharwad on Monday in protest against the head of the Brihanmath, Chitradurga, who, they said, was trying to spoil Veerashaiva culture.

The protesters, led by BJP leaders Gururaj Hunasimarad, Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation councillor, Shivu Hiremath, marched to the Deputy Commissioner’s office demanding that steps be taken for saving the Murugha Math.

The protesters complained that Sri Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru of Chitradurga was trying to spoil Veerashaiva tradition by advocating views that did not fit into it.

They alleged that the swamiji tried to build a team of his followers in Dharwad and take control of the Murugha Math in Dharwad by installing Sri Shanthaveera Guru Murugharajendra Swamiji of Gurumitkal Math as the new seer.

However, the new seer, understanding the conspiracy behind his installation, returned to his earlier math.
