Corrections and clarifications

* * The second paragraph of a report “Admiral Gorshkov likely to arrive by 2014” (December 7, 2009) was “Due to a hasty visit by the first negotiating team during the closing days of the Bharatiya Janata Party government at the Centre and an equal disregard shown to detailing by the Russian side, it was found that the refurbishment cost had been grossly underestimated.” It was the National Democratic Alliance Government (or BJP-led Government). There was no BJP Government at the Centre.

The heading could have also said “INS Vikramaditya” as the first paragraph said “aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya (formerly Admiral Gorshkov)”.

* * The fifteenth paragraph of “Language issue again: the need for a clear-headed policy” (“Online and Off line”, December 7, 2009) said “Interestingly, one of the leading lights of the movement against ‘Hindu imposition’ at the decisive moment of socio-political transformation in Tamil Nadu ….” The word “Hindu” should have been “Hindi”.
