Karwar sand transporters threaten to defy ban
Correspondent
Karwar: Members of the Sand Extractors and Transporters Association of Karwar on Sunday warned district in-charge Minister Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri that the association would defy the ban on sand transportation to Goa, if the Karnataka government failed to take any decision by December 10.
The association members, who arrived at the Udyoga Mela site where Mr. Kageri was holding a pres conference, accused the BJP government of snatching the jobs of sand transporters by banning inter-State movement of sand.
Minister’s assurance
Mr. Kageri assured the members that Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa would hold a meeting with Goa Chief Minister Digamabar Kamat on the matter soon. He said that a meeting was scheduled last month but it was postponed due to the political crisis in the State.
