KHAMMAM: A lorry laden with a consignment of white paper was torched, four trucks damaged and the ICICI bank branch came under attack as the TRS-sponsored bandh turned violent in Khammam district on Monday. Journalists were among those who took out solidarity rallies that marked the second day of protests during the 48-hour bandh that affected life. The bandh was total. TRS activists stopped a lorry carrying paper from a Bhadrachalam-based factory to Hyderabad and set it ablaze in Kothagudem in early hours. A major part of the lorry was damaged along with the consignment. The TRS activists wreaked havoc on four trucks, which were found plying in Kothagudem. Police could prevent similar attacks on many other vehicles, including the car of a doctor in the coal town. Some youths climbed the tower of a private mobile network in Kothagudem demanding that the government concede the demand for separate Telangana and save the life of TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao. A good number of them were activists of the AISF and AIYF. All schools, offices, banks and business establishments remained closed in the district. The ICICI bank branch at Gandhi chowk in Khammam came under attack by protesters in the day. As the bank opened its shutters, the CPI workers stormed into the office and smashed the windowpanes. One of the bank employees was hurt in the attack. They hurled stones on the bank. Some bar shops, which were found open in the day also were attacked. The TRS workers tried to attack the ticket booking counter in the railway station, but it was thwarted by the police.
