MYSORE: Three long-distance trains from Mysore were delayed on Sunday because of operational glitches. While the Howrah-bound train left the station 20 minutes late, the Chennai-bound Cauvery Express and the Dharwad-bound Mysore-Dharwad Express departed 30 minutes and 55 minutes late respectively. Talking to The Hindu, divisional railway manager B.B. Verma said that shunting engines caused the delay. Unaware of the operational problems encountered by the railway authorities, passengers of the Mysore-Dharwad Express were in a state of confusion when the train was not on the designated platform until the time of departure. The confusion escalated following a recorded announcement that the train would leave from platform number 3 at 9.30 p.m. as scheduled. The confusion finally ended when the train arrived on the designated platform, slip coach in tow. Relieved passengers boarded the train, albeit in a hurry and the train finally left the station at 10.25 p.m. Railway authorities maintain that trains were delayed once in a while owing to operational reasons.
