Bhaskar Reddy beats Shyam Sundar, moves up

HYDERABAD: A. Bhaskar Reddy defeated J. Shyam Sundar 9-3 in the qualifying round of the 55 years & above category of the fourth GVK-AISTA senior National (veterans) tennis tournament at the SAAP Tennis Complex here on Monday.

The results:

Final round (qualifying): 65 years & above: R. Padma Raju bt Praful Gujarati 9-2; Subash Sutaar bt Raghava Rao 9-8; Ashok Bhatwapurkar bt K. Sanyasi Rao 9-5; C. Sesha Sai bt A.V. Anand 9-5; Harish Karya bt J.R. Chatrati 9-1.

55 years & above: A. Bhaskar Reddy bt J. Shyam Sundar 9-3; S.A.N. Raju bt Shyam Gaikwad 9-3; Madan Mohan Singh bt Shiv Mor 9-2; M. Yadgiri Rao bt R. Venkateswarlu 9-1; M.V. Satya Mohan bt Nagaraja Gowda 7-4; V. Gajapathi bt S. Kulasekhar 9-1.

Inter-school boxing

Hyderabad District School Games Federation will organise the inter-school boxing championship for boys under-19 years from December 8 to 10 at the Boxing Hall at Lal Bahadur Stadium here. For details contact Phone No. 9985001184.

The State-level YSR Memorial Cup cricket tournament (under-22) has been postponed.

Sri Chaitanya Public School defeated ANRLBN High School by 156 runs in the Krishna District Cricket Association’s inter-schools tournament for THE Nori Siva Ramakrishna Trophy in Vijayawada.

The scores: Telaprolu Raja HS 103 in 19 overs (P. Chaitanya five for 19) bt Ganesh PS 63 in 17.1 overs (Ch. Ramana five for eight).

Ideal PS 138 in 24 overs (Mohammad Azharuddin three for 32, Irfan three for 19) bt Noori Model HS 33 in 19.2 overs (Jayaram five for six, Srikanth four for 10).

Siddhartha EMHS 80 in 16 overs (A. Tarun four for 24) lost to VP Siddhartha PS 83 for two in 11.4 overs.

Sri Gowtham HS 93 in 17.2 overs (S. Anil four for 19) lost to SBMYRR HS 94 for eight in 15.4 overs (K. Akhil six for 37).

Aruna Convent 97 in 23.2 overs (Kranthi three for 13) bt Navodaya 40 in 14 overs (Prudhvi five for 11).

Abhilesh triumphs

Kadapa’s M.L. Abhilesh Reddy won the Andhra Pradesh Open u-25 chess championship by garnering 5.5 points from six rounds at the NTR Stadium at Gudivada on Monday. K.R.G. Krishna finished second with five points. Both the players will represent AP in the National u-25 championship to be held at Kozhikode from December 20 to 26.

Uma felicitated

Andhra Cricket Association South Zone secretary Uma Maheswara Rao was felicitated on Monday by the members of Kadapa Distirct Cricket Association for his appointment as the Board of Control for Cricket in India observer for the second ODI at Mohali on December 10.
