Code from mid-January

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Even though the State Election Commission announced the calendar of events for the elections to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike council on Monday , the model code of conduct will come into effect only from January 15, thus giving the State Government nearly 40 days to announce new projects, if any, for Bangalore city.

State Election Commissioner C.R. Chikkamath said there will not be any restriction on the Government or the BBMP making any new announcement till the code becomes operational. Asked why the code was not being enforced from the date of announcement of the calendar of events, Mr. Chikkamath said there was no such norm binding on the SEC.
