MYSORE: A leopard that has been straying into villages near Devegowdanahundi in Mysore taluk and killing livestock there was trapped on Tuesday.

The fear-stricken residents had repeatedly complained to the Department of Forests on the leopard sightings in and around their village in the past few months and had sought the department’s intervention.

Based on the complaints, a cage was placed on the village periphery with a dog as bait over two months ago.

To their surprise, the residents found the leopard inside the cage on Tuesday.

When the news spread, a large number of people from the surrounding villages rushed to the spot.

Forest officers later shifted the animal to the forest office in Nanjangud. Senior forest officials will soon decide on how to let the leopard back into the wild.
