Play highlights the plight of child labourers School notes

In connection with Human Rights Day, Vidyodaya School Yi Net members staged a street play on child labour at the GCDA complex, Marine Drive. They highlighted the plight of children who are exploited. Through the play, the basic rights of children and the principles of the U.N Policy on Child Labour were conveyed to members of the public. For the students, it was a rare experience, as they could sense the feelings of the crowd. They also realised how fortunate they are, as compared to the children who face rampant exploitation.

Cross-county race

A cross-country race was organised by St. Patrick’s Academy, Angamaly, for the students of Standards V – X in and around Manjapra and Karinlakad. The boys covered a total distance of 5 km while the girls ran 4 km. Athul Raj of Class V was the first in the boys category, clocking 25 minutes, while Chitra Ravindran of Class VII from among girls clocked 19 minutes and 25 seconds. The principal, Bro. Tomy Varghese, gave away the prizes to the winners and an overall championship trophy to Gandhi house.

Christmas celebration

The Christu Jayanthi Public School, Kakkanad, will host Crescendo 2009, a Christmas celebration and annual concert on December 12. True to the spirit of Christmas, the aim is to spread love, fraternity and peace. Actor Sidique and music composer Jerry Amaldev will be among the guests. Stephen Devassy, Alphons Joseph, Afsal, Sayanora and others will perform on stage.

Poster contest

Sahile Michael Melesse and Adwaith Philip George of Kalabhavan Talent Residential School, Ernakulam, won the first prize in a poster designing competition organised here in connection with “Swar - Breaking the silence”, a campaign against abuse of women.

The event was organised by students of Communicative English at St. Teresa’s College, Ernakulam. The second prize went to Rohith P.U. and Vaishakh P.S. of S.N.M. Higher Secondary School, while Unnikrishnan Kalidas and Ashok George of Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad, secured the third place.

Annual sports day held

The 30th annual sports meet conducted by Chinmaya Vidyalaya,Vaduthala, was held at the Maharaja’s ground.

A colourful PT display too was conducted. The inaugural ceremony also saw the marchpast competition between the 4 houses - Aravally, Satpura, Shivalik and Vindhya. Satpura house emerged as the winners.

Silver medal in judo

Fazleen A. Rahim, Class XII student of Vidyodaya School, Thevakkal, bagged the silver medal in the open category at the CBSE National Judo Competition held in Delhi recently. She had secured the gold medal at the CBSE South Zone Championship and State Judo Championship (open meet).

Roller hockey trophy

Rajagiri Public School, Kalamassery, had a unique achievement when the Ernakulam district team which emerged State champions in the sub-junior roller hockey at the State Roller Hockey Championship held recently at Kumily had 10 members from the school.

The team defeated Idukki by a margin of 2-0 to win the trophy.
