Tourism boost for Puttaparthi

HYDERABAD: Puttaparthi town, popular for Sri Satya Sai Baba’s abode in Anantapur district, will be developed as a tourist centre in accordance with a Tourism Development Master Plan under preparation.

Disclosing this during Question Hour in the Legislative Council on Tuesday, Tourism Minister J. Geetha Reddy said that the Master Plan for Puttaparthi and its surrounding areas would be finalised in the next three months.

Various components, including crafts village on the lines of Shilparamam, tanks and parks identified in the Master Plan would be taken up by the government in a phased manner.

She said a Master Plan would be finalised with the coordination of Urban Development Authority, Roads & Buildings and other departments.

Replying to a question on grading system, Secondary Education Minister D. Manikya Vara Prasad said that introducing eight grade system in SSC examination from next year was for assessing the relative performance of students in a given grade and to relieve them of stress they were subjected to in the marks system. Even if there was one mark difference between two students, their ranks would differ where as in the grade system, they were placed in the same grade, he explained.

Responding to teacher members P. Subba Reddi, P. Sudhakar Reddy, D. Rami Reddy, Bala Subramanyam remark that the grading system was introduced without any discussion with experts, the Minister said that grading was a first step in education reforms.
