Rajahmundry
TDP workers protesting against move to carve out separate Telangana, at Pushkara Ghat in Rajahmundry on Saturday. — Rajahmundry: Think novel and do novel is the mantra members of a Walkers’ Club have adopted to draw the attention of the passersby and express their opposition to disintegration of the State. It was 6 a.m. on Saturday. Walkers were busy doing the rounds at Kambalacheruvu. They suddenly stopped and stood like a statue for a moment and then started walking backwards in anti-clockwise direction. When asked why they were doing so, an old man raised slogans like “united Andhra jindabad,” “jai Andhra, jai, jai Andhra.” All the members of the group then joined him in raising the slogans. ‘Porulu dandalu’Another interesting way of protesting against separate Telangana was witnessed at the Potti Sriramulu statue at Kotagummam. Youths numbering some 20 attired in a dhoti jumped from a jeep and stood around the statue. They then started rolling on the floor for about 30 minutes. But unlike those who chant the name of the lord while doing porlu dandalu, the youths raised slogans like “jai Andhra, jai, jai Andhra.” ‘Homam’TDP leaders Ganni Krishna, Gorantla Rajendra Prasad, Vasireddy Rambabu, Varre Srinivasa Rao and corporators performed a ‘homam’ on the banks of the Godavari at Pushkara Ghat in the morning. Seeking blessingsThe ritual evoked a good response from the public. They offered ‘poornahuti’ to appease the gods and sought their intervention to keep the State united.
