‘Delhi Govt. has failed on all fronts’

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Delhi BJP president O. P. Kohli on Saturday accused the Delhi Government of failing on all counts and continuing to adopt an anti-people attitude on various issues affecting the masses.

Prof. Kohli said the Congress Government had failed in curbing price rise that has seen the prices of food items spiral in the past year. Above all, he said, it was negligence in the management of food items which had led to the crisis. Now with the Value Added Tax (VAT) also proposed to be raised on some articles, he added, the financial burden on the people would increase way beyond the capacity of many.

“Further,” the BJP leader said, “there has been a hefty increase in the rates of civic amenities. Be it power or water tariffs or bus and metro railway fare, they have all gone up making public transport very costly for the common man.”

He said the law and order situation in Delhi had also deteriorated considerably and in the past year there have been over 18,000 cases of theft, 26 cases of dacoity, 771 cases of chain snatching, 478 cases of murder and over 4,000 cases of vehicle theft in the Capital city. The women and the senior citizens have been the worst victims of the spurt in crime, he said.

Prof. Kohli also accused the Sheila Dikshit Government of failing to fulfil the promises made about regularisation of unauthorised colonies. He said “fraud is being committed on the residents of these unauthorised colonies as they are not being regularised”.

Besides, he said, the Delhi Government has proved ineffective in preventing food adulteration and stopping corruption in supply of mid-day meals in government schools.

He also held the Delhi Government responsible for the delay in the preparations for Commonwealth Games-2010 and the subsequent increase in the cost of the projects, which are now being done in an emergency mode.

To protest against all these issues, Prof. Kohli said, the Delhi BJP has also organised a demonstration at the Delhi Assembly this Monday.
