Arrangements in full swing for one-dayer

Staff Reporter

Both teams to arrive in Bhubaneswar on December 19 and make practice the next day

Seating capacity in the stadium has been increased

Sale of tickets to begin on December 18

BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa Cricket Association (OCA) here on Sunday said it was ready to organise the third one-day international cricket match between India and Sri Lanka at Barabati Stadium.

Addressing the ceremonial press conference before the match, OCA secretary Ashirbad Behera said, “ground and pitch of the Barabati Stadium has already been prepared and inspected by a member of BCCI ground committee. The association has had several rounds of talks on security arrangements with the Commissionerate of Police for Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.”

Pending works

Both the teams would arrive in Bhubaneswar on December 19 and travel to Barabati Stadium at Cuttack for practice sessions the next day, Mr. Behera said.

OCA secretary said as per the BCCI’s rotation policy, Orissa would have been allotted an ODI in the year 2010. “Since we were asked to organise match in December this year, some infrastructure development works are yet to be completed. Within a week, we will be able to finish all pending works,” hoped Mr. Behera.

The seating capacity in the stadium was increased from 31,190 in 2008 to 39,000 this year. However, only 15,000 seats would be available for general public, while the remaining tickets would be reserved for BCCI, sponsors and affiliated units of both cricket associations.

Besides, the OCA has insured the ground and other property along with spectators with the Oriental Insurance Company for the ensuing ODI for Rs. 14 crores out of which a sum of Rs. 3 crores was meant for public liability insurance (spectators and visitors).

High-scoring pitch

Speaking on the occasion, OCA president Ranjib Biswal said more than 500 runs were scored in the last one-day international played in 2008. “Now the pitch would help batsmen. People would enjoy high-scoring game,” said Mr. Biswal, who has captained Orissa in domestic cricket.

Tickets would be sold to the public through separate counters at Barabati Stadium by bank authorities from 9 a.m. on December 18. One person would be allowed to purchase only two tickets. The close-circuit cameras would be operated to have an eye on proceedings.
