The Telangana Rashtra Samiti’s act of inciting students to resort to violence for Telangana statehood is irrational and uncalled for. Though diverse dialects and rituals exist in the three regions – Rayalaseema, Telangana and Kosta – that constitute Andhra Pradesh, a subtle thread of Telugu culture, mutual trust and sociability binds the populace of these regions together. Tearing off Telangana would trigger demands for Rayalasema State. The division of State is a suicidal option. It tends to duplicate administrative expenses that would eat into the exchequer. What is desired is benevolent governance that ensures equality in development. One hopes better counsel would prevail over K. Chandrasekhar Rao and his followers. N. Sadasivan Pillai, Modinabad Rainwater harvestingAnantapur district is well known for scarcity of rains. Every drop of rain is precious and strangely no major exercise is taken up in the district to harvest the rain water by municipalities and panchayats. Incentives in the shape of reduced taxes (on property) should be implemented to encourage rain water harvesting. A beginning should be made by major municipalities. A working model should be displayed in every municipality and panchayati raj establishments.
