Concerned: PR president Chiranjeevi coming out of Chief Minister K. Rosaiah’s residence in Hyderabad on Sunday after a meeting on political developments in the State. - HYDERABAD: Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi on Sunday afternoon called on Chief Minister K. Rosaiah at his residence and appealed to him to intervene appropriately and restore peace, law and order in the State in the wake of the political developments. In a letter to the Chief Minister, he said that in the past few days, law and order had deteriorated, leading to a tense atmosphere. He appealed to Mr. Rosaiah, asking him to maintain law and order, keeping in mind the feelings of all sections of people. He wanted all political parties to be taken into confidence and a solution found out in a congenial atmosphere. Meanwhile, indicating a change in party’s stand on supporting separate Telangana, senior Praja Rajyam leader, Kotagiri Vidyadhara Rao, said it favoured an integrated Andhra Pradesh. It was surprising to see that a section of people in Andhra Pradesh, were favouring a division of the State when it could deplete the strength of the MPs sent to the Parliament. This in turn could lead reduce in flow of funds to the State. He took the example of Uttar Pradesh that still had 80 members in Parliament even after Uttarakhand was carved out and managed to get more funds. He regretted that people failed to understand that development in Andhra Pradesh with a 42-member representation in the Lok Sabha would be different. When National Democratic Alliance was in power at Centre, the State had four Union Ministers from Andhra Pradesh and got a major chunk of funds in the rural and urban development, agriculture and power sectors. Under the United Progressive Alliance regime too, with 33 Congress MPs, the State was able to demand national status to Polavaram and Pranahita-Chevella projects, he said. “Separatists should learn a lesson from Tamil Nadu which owes its development only to its united status,” Mr. Rao said. He asked people who claimed that Telangana was neglected, to consider the strides made in the communication, roads, education, health and power sectors. Posing a question to former Ministers in the erstwhile TDP government, he asked if the amount spent on irrigation projects and the extent of ayacut brought under irrigation during their respective tenures was not development.
