Forum to stimulate growth of textile cluster launched

Staff Reporter

It will conduct seminars, refresher courses and workshops

Tirupur: A novel forum of textile professionals, technical support institutions and entrepreneurs in the Tirupur knitwear cluster was launched here on Sunday in an attempt to stimulate the growth of the sector and equip it to meet the newer challenges in the global apparel market.

Named ‘Knowledge Network’, the platform was created under the ambit of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Financing and Development Project (MSME-FDP), a World Bank-led multi-agency funded cluster development programme initiated under the aegis of the Union Government.

Nodal agency

The NIFT-TEA College of Knitwear Fashion, Tirupur, had been designated as the nodal agency for the functioning of the forum with the technical support coming from Apex Cluster Development Services Private Limited (ACDSPL), a consultancy firm appointed for the grassroot-level implementation of MSME-FDP in the cluster.

S.S. Moorthi, senior technical advisor, ACDSPL, told reporters that the network would be conducting technical seminars, short-term refresher courses and workshops to improve human resources with emphasis on improving skills of middle-level managers.

Guiding force

“It is the middle-level managers who, normally, are the guiding force behind the entrepreneurs and hence, they needed to be trained to help the units minimise wastes and production costs,” he said. Mr. Moorthi said that industry people who wished to upgrade their knowledge could become the member of the ‘Knowledge Network’ by paying a nominal annual subscription of Rs. 250.

Earlier, NIFT-College of Knitwear Fashion Chairman Raja M. Shanmugam inaugurated the network forum.
