Students of KMK Kannaiya Pillai Memorial High School, Karaikal, brought laurels to their school, bagging the right to participate in the 17th National Children’s Science congress. Their project, “A comparative study of the floral diversity in the industrial and urban areas of Karaikal district” has been selected for the 17th National Children’s Science Congress to be held in Ahmedabad from December 27- 31. Students B. Siramjeevi, K. Ashokan, R. Harish, S. Palaniyappan, and M. Mohamed Sohail surveyed various places in and around the industrial areas of Karaikal and interior areas of the town. They had made a detailed survey of the plants species in both these areas and made a comparative study on both of them. T. Balraj, district co-ordinator of Puducherry Science Forum, guided them. S. Velu, Headmaster, and S. Guruselvi, science guide, had provided the impetus for this project. The project was selected at the end of a two-day state level contest held at Puducherry recently. Rich medal haul for schoolStudents of Bharani Park Matriculation Higher Secondary School won six gold medals, two silver medals and 11 bronze medals in various events at the state level Republic Day and Bharathiar Day Games meets. In Judo, J. Vivek (class XI), R. Premkumar (VIII), P. Nandini (VII), T. Ambika (VIII) won gold medals, while S. Dharani (VII) won silver medal. S. Solai (VIII), S. U. Kesia Sri (X) won bronze medals in Judo. In Gymnastics, N. Deepti (VIII) won gold medal, while Vaishali (XI) won two bronze medals, A. Sharmila Devi (XI), Nandini (VII), T. Ambika (VIII), Dharani (VII) won a bronze medal each. Bharani Park won the team championship in Gymnastics. In fencing, R. Lakshmipriya (VII) won a bronze medal. In boxing, R. Gunasekaran (VIII), and Pandeeswaran (XI) won bronze medals. In Taekwondo, R. Tamizhstalin (VIII) secured a silver medal. Chief Educational Officer K. Kandasamy, Principal C. Ramasubramanian, Administrative Officer M. Suresh, Vice-Principal S. Sudhadevi felicitated the youngsters and the physical education teachers of the school Durai, V. Senthilkumar, N. Latha, R. Kaviarasan, Sasikumar and M. Subramanian. Athletic meet conductedA large number students from various schools participated in the Thanjavur divisional-level athletic meet conducted at the Annai Sathya Stadium in Thanjavur recently. M. Murugaraj (St. John’s Higher Secondary School, Tiruvarur) in the under-14 section, S. Ramachandran (V.S. Boys Higher Secondary School, Tiruvarur) in the Under 17 category and M. Silambarasan (National Higher Secondary School, Nagapattinam) in the under-19 section were adjudged individual champions. Saplings plantedUnder the auspices of Environment and National Green Corps Club, a special programme was held at the Government Higher Secondary School at Padalur, near here. The members of the Club planted saplings. Chief Educational Officer C. Chakrapani and District Educational Officer Malarkodi spoke on the significance of environmental protection. Headmaster Sheik Saleem presided over the function. Founder’s DayThe Founder’s Day was celebrated at Nizam Oriental Arabic High School, Pudukottai, recently. School president A. R. Noor Mohamed presided. Mohamed Nasar, correspondent of the Mahatma Educational Institutions, M. S. Haja Mohideen, Headmaster of the school, and others spoke. Contributed by P. V.
