Vishwa Hindu Parishad activists arrested in Hosur

HOSUR: Thirty-four Vishwa Hindu Parishad activists, including district president Vishnu Kumar, were arrested here on Wednesday night when they protested against denial of permission to carry out idol procession.
R. Sudhakar, Superintendent of Police (in charge), Dharmapuri, told ‘The Hindu’ that the VHP activists were adamant on taking out the procession of the Lord Anchaneya from Banda Anchaneya Temple on Royakottai Road through the banned main thoroughfares. Police had denied permission to take out the procession. They left the deity in front of the temple, when their pleas went unheeded.
Police pickets were strengthened to avoid law and order problem.
