Nand Lal triumphs

NEW DELHI: Nand Lal won the Grand Chinggis Khaan Golf Cup at the Qutab Golf Course in a field that had corporate heads, industrialists, diplomats and ambassadors. He won the Nett Gross category under the Stableford format.

The rolling trophy was presented by the Minister for Corporate Affairs, Salman Khurshid, in the presence of the Ambassador of Mongolia, Voroshilov Enkhbold, and Lt. Governor Tejinder Khanna.

Neelam Pratap Rudy, winner of the Ladies category, Soumya Dutta, winner of the MESCO Steel ‘man of the steel’ best corporate golfer, Milena Santana, Ambassador of Venezuela, winner in the lady Ambassador category and Calvin Eu, High Commissioner of Singapore, adjudged the ‘best playing Ambassador’, were also felicitated.

The tournament that featured 120 participants and about 30 embassies, was Mongolia’s first step towards the promotion of its culture and tourism in India.

“The decision to hold the Grand Chinggis Khaan Golf Cup in India for the first time means we will be further adding to the magnificent history of partnership between the two countries, Mongolia and India,” said Voroshilov Enkhbold, the Ambassador of Mongolia.

DSA senior division from Dec. 20

Fourteen clubs will vie for top honours in the DLF-Delhi Soccer Association annual senior division open clubs league to be held at the Ambedkar Stadium here from December 20.

The participating clubs are joint champions Hindustan and Indian Nationals, New Delhi Heroes, Tarun Sangha, Ahbab Club, Garhwal Heroes, Simla Youngs, Himax – Shahdara Club, Shastri Club, Moghuls, Royal Rangers, Youngmen and Colordesign–Gorkha Heroes.

The league will be held on a round robin format. The ranking of teams will be decided on the basis of points earned in the round robin league.

Some of the matches will also be played at the Air Force Football ground, Race Course. The bottom two teams of the league will be relegated to ‘A’ division next year.

Besides DLF, the league will be sponsored by ONGC and SAIL. ‘Cosco’ will be the official ball for the tournament.

Former champion N.D. Heroes and Shastri Club will figure in the inaugural match.
