Rohit’s triple ton takes Mumbai to 648

Rohit Sharma reacts after reaching his triple century against Gujarat on Wednesday.

MUMBAI: Rohit Sharma dazzled with an unbeaten triple hundred on the second day of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy Super League ‘B’ match against Gujarat at the Brabourne Stadium here on Wednesday.

Sharma’s 309 not out (322b, 38x4, 4x6) helped the host amass 648 for the loss of six wickets in 151 overs before skipper Wasim Jaffer declared the innings.

Sharma’s highest first class score took 458 minutes to compile.

The batsman added 342 in 63.5 overs for the fourth wicket with S. Marathe, who scored a patient 144.

Later, Gujarat made a watchful start to its innings, and was on 120 for the loss of opener Jay Desai when play ended on the second day.

Super League ‘A’: At Delhi: Railways 276 in 91 overs (F. Fazal 87, K. Sharma 59 not out, Rahul Sharma six for 92) vs Punjab 154 for four in 69 overs (M. Sidhana 54, U. Kaul 46 batting).

At Dharamsala: Himachal Pradesh 125 and 47 for two in 17.1 overs vs Orissa 316 in 93.1 overs (N. Behera 53, H. Das 144, Mohinderraj Sharma five for 102).

At Hyderabad: Hyderabad 347 in 118.5 overs (A. Rayudu 106, Anirudh Singh 75, S. Pai 51) vs Tamil Nadu 189 for one in 57 overs (S. Anirudha 70, A. Mukund 66 batting, A. Karthik 49 batting).

At Mumbai: Mumbai 648 for six decl. in 151 overs (S. Marathe 144, A. Rahane 56, R. Sharma not out 309, V. Samant not out 50) vs Gujarat 120 for one in 29.1 overs (R. Chauhan 43 batting).

Super League ‘B’: At Kolkata: Bengal 522 in 129.1 overs (S. Ganguly 152, W. Saha 120, L. Shukla 132, A. Dinda 41, P. Sangwan four for 113, P. Awana three for 105) vs Delhi 68 for two in 22.3 overs.
