“Beneficiaries of Kalaignar health insurance scheme should pass on the message”

CHENNAI: Nearly 4.74 lakh persons in the city have registered for Dr. Kalaignar Health Insurance Scheme so far .

Beneficiaries must carry forward the message to facilitate more people utilise the scheme, Information Minister Parithi Illamvazhuthi said here recently.

Inaugurating a photo session for beneficiaries of Egmore-Nungambakkam taluk at Pudupet, he said about 30,000 persons have registered for the scheme in 14 wards of Egmore. So far, smart cards have been received for 1.62 lakh members of the scheme from the insurance companies.

Maternity assistance

Around 760 persons have undergone treatment worth Rs.3.66 crore so far, he said. He also distributed maternity assistance worth Rs.2.10 lakh to 35 persons under the Dr.Muthulakshmi Reddy maternity welfare assistance scheme.

Peer Mohammed, a tailor by profession suffering from heart disease, was one among the hundreds of people who were waiting to be photographed at the camp.

“I have been asked to get admitted to the hospital as soon as possible. I was not able to work for the past six months due to my health problem. It would be useful if I get the membership card or a certificate soon for undergoing treatment,” he said.

According to Chennai Collectorate officials, about 1,000 people were photographed and their finger prints were taken on Monday.

Similar camps would be held for beneficiaries in other taluks and welfare board members during the course of the week.

Members could also get a certificate from the tahsildar concerned in the absence of smart card to undergo treatment.
