PR activists form breakaway group
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD: Praja Rajyam’s reversal of stand on Telangana has led to a revolt in the party rank and file of the region. A break away group formed a separate unit of the party as Telangana PR.
A majority of the office-bearers of Mahabubnagar district unit of the party, led by its president Janardhan, joined TRS, while the remaining district units of the region have formed into separate party.
Meeting held
Leaders from other districts in Telangana met at a hotel and decided to hold an extended meeting here on December 27. Those who attended the meeting included party MLA from Balkonda E. Anil Kumar, Naragoni, D. Sravan, P. Karuna, C. Karunakar Reddy, Rajamouli, D. Srinivas and others. They condemned the police lathi-charge on party leaders from the region, including Mr. Sravan and their arrest, when they tried to enter the party office while Mr. Chiranjeevi was addressing the media. They said that they had worked hard for development of the party, but the party president had ditched them mid-way.
There was also a difference of opinion within the newly formed breakaway unit with some leaders planning to join the Congress, while a few others were leaning towards the TRS. “It is a known fact that Nirmal legislator A. Maheswhar Reddy is very close to Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy,” another party leader said.
