No proposal to raise water tariff for now

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: Minister for Information Technology, Biotechnology, Excise, and Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) Katta Subramanya Naidu told presspersons here on Thursday that there is no proposal — at least for the time being — before the Government to increase the water tariff in the city.

The last tariff revision was in February 2005. Asked about the impact of the recent increase in power charges on BWSSB, he said a meeting would be convened soon to discus all issues concerned with the quantum of water supply in the city and the tariff.

Sources said the recent increase in power charges would place an additional burden of nearly Rs. 24 crore annually on BWSSB’s power bills.
