Unions to rope in non-participating mills in West Bengal jute strike

Indrani Dutta

KOLKATA: In a bid to rope in workers at two mill units not participating in the ongoing jute strike here, leaders of the central trade unions have decided to hold meetings at the gates of these units so as to make the indefinite strike total. The strike, which was called to press for various pay-related demands and more importantly for implementation of earlier settlements, entered its fourth day on Thursday. Gobindo Guha of the Bengal Chatkal Mazdoor Union, which is affiliated to the Centre of India Trade Unions, told The Hindu that beginning Friday, the unions leaders would start holding meetings at the gates of the mills. “We will appeal to the workers of the mills not to betray the cause of their brethren,” he said.
