Chitradurga: Superintendent of Police Labhu Ram has said that a awareness programme on counterfeit currency notes will be held at Guru Bhavan here on Saturday as part of Crime Prevention Month. The programme is being organised by the district police in association with the State Bank of Mysore. Mr. Labhu Ram told presspersons here on Thursday that there was an increase in the number fake currency rackets. “The objective of the programme is to not only educate people but also prevent circulation of counterfeit notes in market,” he said. He urged the people to make use of the programme. Mr. Labhu Ram said that valuables worth Rs. 1.97 crore were stolen in the district this year. Of them, valuables worth Rs. 1.39 crore had been recovered, he added. To a question, he said that 86 posts for armed police constable and 25 posts of police constables were vacant in the district. Additional Superintendent of Police Shivaramreddy was present on the occasion.
