Tirupur: The Tirupur Consumer Voice (TCV) has requested the Railways to improve the infrastructure at the Tirupur railway station to commensurate with the growing demands and introduce a passenger train between Erode and Tirupur, among other demands. In a memorandum submitted to the Southern Railway General Manager, TCV secretary P. Somasundaram pointed out that since both the platforms at the station had not been covered fully, a sizeable lot of passengers were forced to wait either in the scorching sun or in the rain before they could board the train. “Though the issue has been brought to the notice of the authorities concerned, it is yet to be addressed,” he said. Other matters brought out include lack of adequate chairs on the platforms to seat the passengers and the need for better quality printouts of reservation chart pasted on the notice board in the station building. Complaints“Most of the time, details on the reservation chart displayed are not bold enough and hence, the content cannot be read fast,” Mr. Somasundaram said. He complained that the telephone at the information counter was not attended for most part of the day. Mr. Somasundaram said that a passenger train from Erode to Tirupur between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. and in the reverse direction between 5.30 p.m. and 7 p.m. should be introduced for easy commuting of hundreds of industrial workers coming from Erode to Tirupur for jobs.
