HYDERABAD: It was a golden double for Gagan Narang of India in the men’s 10m air rifle at the Asian shooting championships at Doha, Qatar on Friday. In addition to the men’s individual crown, he combined well with compatriots P.T. Raghunath and Sanjeev Rajput to pocket the team gold as well. When the preliminary rounds were completed, Narang had 597, against former Olympic champion Zhu Qinan’s 596. In the final, the Hyderabad crackshot scored 104 against Zhu’s 104.7. The quadruple gold medallist of the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games however emerged on top with a .3 point margin. Raghunath with 696.9 and Rajput with 693.1, finished fourth and sixth respectively. In the junior men’s competition of the same event, India’s Chain Singh with 691.5 claimed the bronze. China’s Zikang Yu with 696.1 and Mongolia’s Bishrel Boldbaatar with 692.7, won the gold and silver respectively. The results: 10 m air rifle (men): 1. Gagan Narang (597 +104) 701 (Ind) 2. Zhu Qinan (96 + 104.7) 700.7 (Chn) 3. Shengbo Zhao (595 + 103.4) 698.4 (Chn).
