COIMBATORE: Picanol India, a subsidiary of the Belgium-based Picanol Group, is buoyant over the Indian market for textile weaving machines. P. Kasiviswanathan, who heads the Indian operations of Picanol, told The Hindu here on Friday that the textile spinning sector was doing well now. If the market remained so for another five months, the weaving sector would attract investments. “Today, they are in the planning stage.” Demand was expected from the small and medium players too. Picanol India started operations in January 2008. “We came at a time when the market was correcting. We are happy with the result,” he said. Though 2008-09 was a year of global recession, Picanol India had done extremely well during the two years. Machinery sales during the two years were above the target. “For Picanol, India is one of the top markets, next only to China.” He said the company’s market share in India had increased for rapier and air jet looms. It had totally 5,000 to 6,000 machines in operation in India. A number of composite projects were coming up in the western region. It had branches in Mumbai and Coimbatore. Currently, Picanol was not looking at manufacturing in India.
