“Retract decision to give licence for liquor shops”

PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has urged the government to retract its decision to give licence to 90 new liquor shops.

A release said there were 642 liquor shops in the Union Territory with a population of 12 lakh. These included arrack and toddy shops. Liquor being the root for many evils, the government should not allow any more shops.
