‘State will soon become independent as far as vegetable production is concerned’. ALAPPUZHA: Civil Supplies Minister C. Divakaran has called for the strengthening of the agriculture production sector and achievement of self-sufficiency in production of essential goods. Inaugurating the 16th Horticulture and Industrial Exhibition organised jointly by the District Agri-Horticulture Department; department of botany at S.D. College; and the State Agriculture Department on the SDV School Grounds here on Saturday, the Minister said the State would soon become independent as far as vegetable production was concerned. Paddy productionHowever, the same could not be said of the paddy production sector and this was a major concern. There was a lot left to be done in the agriculture sector though the government was initiating several farmer-friendly steps. The government had a lot of expectations from the farmers, who would have to put in their best to see that the production graphs moved only upwards, he said. K.C. Venugopal, MP; A.A. Shukoor, MLA; Municipal Chairman P.P. Chitharanjan; and District Collector P. Venugopal were also present at the function.
