KOCHI: The Airtel Kochi Mini Marathon will be flagged off from the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kaloor, at 7.30 a.m. on Sunday. Airtel’s Chief Operating Officer Anant Arora, Kochi Mayor Mercy Williams and S.R. Bannurmath, Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court, will flag off the event. The 10-km event will start at the Nehru Stadium and run through Kaloor and Kadavanthra before returning to the stadium. The run is open to all and the winner in the men’s and women’s sections will take a prize of Rs 30,000 each. Thrilling win for TCUTravancore Cricket Union scored a six-wicket thrilling win over Seetharama Cricket Club, with just two balls to spare, in the third Capt. Jerry Premraj Twenty20 cricket tournament in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday. In the other matches of the day, Little Masters Cricket Club defeated Royal Green Cricket Club by nine wickets while Pankajakasthuri Cricket Club prevailed over host Marshall Cricket Club by 50 runs. The scores: Seetharama CC 164 for two in 20 overs (Muthu 81 not out, Juby 41 not out) lost to Travancore Cricket Union 169 for four in 19.4 overs (M.R. Sreejith 77, Suraj Roshan 40 not out). Royal Green CC 73 in 14.4 overs (C. Manu five for 18) lost to Little Masters CC 74 for 1 in 11.5 overs. Pankajakasthuri CC 173 for eight in 20 overs (Karthik 54, Dhaneesh four for 18) bt Marshall CC 123 for eight in 20 overs (Vipin 35). Sreejith scalps fourK.R. Sreejith took four wickets and Vishnu Manohar hit an unbeaten 73 as Swantons CC, Ernakulam, drubbed United CC (Kaipamangalam) by seven wickets and entered the semifinals of the Santhosh Menon memorial all-Kerala cricket tournament at Cherpu, on Saturday. The scores: United CC, Kaipamangalam 184 for eight in 40 overs (Mazhood 57, K.R. Sreejith four for 34) lost to Swantons CC, Ernakulam 185 for three in 28.4 overs (Vishnu S. Manohar 73 n.o., V.P. Nithin 40 n.o., Jaffer Jamal 33). Chess championshipThe 28th National youth chess championship opens at the S.K. Pottekatt Cultural Centre in Kozhikode on Sunday. More than 70 players are expected for this tournament, to be played over 10 Swiss rounds. The event carries a total prize fund of Rs. 75,000 with the champion taking home Rs. 25,000. The tourney concludes on December 26.
