House burgled, lakhs looted

NEW DELHI: Burglars broke into a house in Vikaspuri here on Saturday and allegedly made off with cash and jewellery worth several lakhs.

Naveen Chawla, a financial consultant, was away at work and his wife had gone to attend a parents-teacher meeting in a school nearby when the burglars struck. “My wife was leaving for the meeting when a saleswoman accosted her on the road and tried to sell diapers. My wife was in hurry and refused to listen to her. When she returned from the school an hour later, she found the lock on the door missing. The house was ransacked and jewellery worth over Rs.5 lakh and Rs.3 lakh in cash were missing,” said Mr. Chawla.

“Some neighbours had seen the saleswoman making a phone call from a public booth after my wife left. The saleswoman later entered our building. It appears the woman along with her accomplices committed the burglary,” said Mr. Chawla.
