BANGALORE: Home Minister V.S. Acharya on Friday asked the police to discharge their duties by taking people into confidence. Speaking at the valedictory function of the annual sports meet of the Bangalore City Police here, Mr. Acharya reminded the policemen of the criticism they attracted for their action on agitating farmers in Chamarajanagar recently. “Bear in mind that your actions are legal and ensure that you have the confidence of people,” he said. Mr. Acharya said the State Government would increase the grant-in-aid to the Karnataka State Police Benevolent Fund from Rs. 50 lakh to Rs. 1 crore from the next year. Mr. Acharya favoured setting up of gymnasiums in all police stations under the modernisation scheme. TrophyMr. Acharya presented the overall champion trophy to H.M Chandrashekar from the City Armed Reserve’s South Division. Jagadeesh from the CAR Headquarters was given the individual championship trophy. Police Commissioner Shankar M. Bidari was present on the occasion.
