3.75 kg of gold ornaments seized

Rajesh B.Nair

PUDUCHERRY: The Orleanpet Police on Sunday arrested two persons and seized 3.75 kg of gold ornaments, worth Rs. 50 lakh, in their possession.

They were picked up by a police team from the New Bus Stand during a routine check. The accused, Abhi and Tedison, were carrying the ornaments and were about to board a bus.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) B. Srikanth told The Hindu that they did not carry receipts or bills for the items.

Duo questioned

During interrogation, they said that the jewellery was manufactured by a firm in Thrissur and they were taking it to a jewellery mart in Cuddalore to get orders for supply, he said.

“We suspect that they were taking the items for sale. We have informed the Enforcement Directorate, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and the Income Tax Department for a detailed investigation,” he said.
