Indo-Vietnam festival

KOCHI: When a Vietnamese singer sang the old Hindi film song Lakhon hai yahan dilwale, everybody gathered at the Layam Ground in Thripunithura joined in. The performance was part of a cultural meet organised as part of the Indo-Vietnam Friendship Festival 2009. Another song and dance sequence based on another Hindi song Mera babu chhail chhabila main to nachoongi followed. There were vocal and instrumental music performances which were ethnic Vietnam.

The team of artists from Vietnam, led by Tran Dac Loi, was in the city as part of the cultural programme promoted by the Vietnam Peace and Development Foundation and Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisation.

Later, a classical dance programme by Dinesh Kumari Vasanthan and troupe was held.

The Vietnamese group had performed in Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode, before coming to Kochi.

Minister for Forests Benoy Viswom inaugurated the reception held in honour of the team. Renjini Suresh, chairperson, Thripunithura Municipal Council, presided.
