No breakthrough yet in Sadar Bazar murder case

Sketches based on inputs from eye-witnesses

Robbers had opened fire at a businessman while fleeing after failed robbery bid on Saturday

NEW DELHI: The police have prepared sketches of two of the suspects allegedly involved in a robbery bid in which a businessman was killed and two sustained bullet injuries in Sadar Bazar here on Saturday.

“We have prepared the sketches based on the inputs of eye-witnesses. There is no breakthrough in the case so far,” said a senior police officer.

Forty-four-year-old Nilesh Kumar, an owner of a brass components manufacturing unit, was killed and Ramchander and Sulai Kumar were injured when a gang of robbers opened fire while fleeing after a failed robbery bid on Bahadurgarh Road in the morning.

The incident took place when the robbers tried to snatch a bag containing Rs.50,000 in cash from Sunil Kumar and Shiv Bahadur who were on their way to deposit the cash in the Khari Baoli branch of the Punjab National Bank on a cycle-rickshaw.

Following the incident, locals staged a dharna demanding that the robbers be arrested.

Meanwhile, traders on Sunday sought adequate security for the business community in the Capital.

In a representation to Police Commissioner Y. S. Dadwal, traders under the banner of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) expressed deep concern over the repeated incidents in the city and urged the authorities to be more active in curbing such incidents.

“Continued occurrence of such incidents shows lack of fear for the law among anti-social elements. This needs to be curbed in order to restore the confidence of the people and the business community in particular,” said CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal in a press release.
