Avvaiyarkuppam local body chief appreciated for bringing 1,200 persons under insurance cover VILLUPURAM: As many as 25,341 beneficiaries of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme have been covered under life insurance in the district, according to Collector R. Palanisamy. He was addressing a function held here recently to disburse compensation of Rs.35,000 each to two families, who lost their breadwinners. Mr. Palanisamy said Life Insurance Corporation had provided cover to NREG Scheme beneficiaries under the Janashri Beema Yojana. A premium of Rs. 230 was being collected. The Centre’s contribution would be Rs.230 and while the individual would pay Rs.100. So far, compensation of Rs.6 lakh had been disbursed to 20 beneficiaries, including Rs.80,000 to the family of an accident victim and Rs.37,500 to that of a person with disability. Mr. Palanisamy appreciated the gesture of Avvaiyarkuppam panchayat president G. Elumalai for having brought 1,200 beneficiaries under insurance cover. Besides insurance, 3,801 wards of the beneficiaries were given educational assistance to the tune of Rs.45.61 lakh. Assistant Branch Manager of LIC (Puducherry) M. Mohan, and Public Relations Officer M. Palanisamy were present.
