In Rhythm: The Sharik Hasan Trio unleashed their eclectic brand of music in Mysore. MYSORE: Bonjour India – Festival of France in India – kicked off in Mysore on Sunday with a jazz concert by the Sharik Hasan Trio at Vanaranga. The Sharik Hasan Trio is an Indo-French group of three musicians from diverse backgrounds who came together in Paris in 2008 with a common musical vision. Their unique compositions are influenced by different genres such as classical and hip-hop, but are firmly rooted in jazz. Their music, critics claim, is also influenced by musicians across the musical spectrum, from Beethoven to George Benson and Stevie Wonder. Leading the trio was Sharik Hasan, who learnt to play the classical piano at the age of five in Boston, and later studied in Bangalore, London, Paris and New York. The band also features Gael Petrina from Ecuador who picked up the electric bass guitar in Los Angles at the age of 12, discovered jazz at the age of 15, and has since played with many bands. Drummer Thibault Pierrard holds a degree in musicology and jazz from La Sorbonne. The hour-long concert had the audience hanging onto every note and begging for more. The next event, an opera featuring Marion Baglan, will be held on January 10 at the Rani Bahadur Auditorium. Those interested can collect passes from the Alliance Francaise, Mysore chapter.
