Nizamabad
Vociferous plea: Residents of Andhra settlements staging a rasta roko seeking immediate formation of Telangana, at Makloor mandal headquarters in Nizamabad district on Monday. NIZAMABAD: Andhra ‘settlers’ of Krishnanagar, Durganagar, Shantinagar, Kothapally and Laknapur camps in Makloor mandal staged a rasta roko at the mandal headquarter on Monday demanding the Central government immediately initiate measures to form Telangana state. A number of farmers of these villages volunteered to organise this agitation and expressed their full support to the formation of the Telangana. They later submitted a memorandum to the mandal authorities on the immediate formation of Telangana. The 43-year-old Elavarthi Venkata Krishna Rao of Lakmapur camp, said his grandfather Venkata Subbaiah had migrated from Guntur in 1954 and since then his family along with other migrated families in the village had been living a happy life without any regional segregation by locals. “I was born and brought up here. I am a staunch supporter of separate Telangana. I owe my gratitude to this soil and people as they have treated me and every settlers’ family as one among them,” he said. Velagapudi Kesav Rao, a resident of Kothapally who organised the rasta roko, said: “We are very fond of Telangana State. We will be still happier in the separate State than in the united Andhra Pradesh.”
