Air fares shoot up
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: With Christmas holidays and the New Year fast approaching, air fares have touched a new high. The airfare for a Bangalore-Hyderabad flight on December 25 is Rs. 20,000, which during pre-unrest days used to be less than Rs. 5,000.
K.P. Abhiram, who has to travel to Karnataka to attend his younger brother’s engagement on December 27, said he has to book air tickets paying over and above the normal fare for himself and his wife.
Air India spokesperson agreed that there was great demand for seats in the Bangalore – Hyderabad sector and all the flights are fully booked. The demand is also due to the long weekend and the festival season, he said, and added that normal fares prevail for Air India flights.
